Milestones

Dear Penelope,

On May 18, 2012 you showed me that you can roll from back to tummy AND tummy to back.  It seems to be easier for you to roll from back to tummy but you are now able to roll both directions.  Woo hoo!  You can push yourself up pretty high while lying on your tummy.  Your bum stays down but your head and chest can get pretty high.  You get stronger and stronger everyday!

Another milestone you reached this week (May 26th) is sitting unassisted for brief periods.  By brief periods I mean around 10 - 20 seconds at a time.  I am such a proud mama!

Saturday was your first day using your new car seat.  You look so little in your seat.  Just the way you should look.  You're growing up too fast and I need you to be my little baby just a little bit longer.  You did a great job in your new car seat.  We drove to Davis to visit our friends Dario, Kelly, and Edo.  You slept most of the way both directions and you looked nice and comfortable.

I love you baby girl!  You can stay my itty bitty a little longer you know.  There really is no rush in growing up.

5 Months Old

Dear Penelope,

Today you are 5 months old.  You have grown so much in the last month.  You rolled for the first time a couple of weeks ago (April 19th).  It may have been an accident but I'm still counting it as your first roll.  In the last week you started really working on rolling from back to tummy.  You will get to your side, lift your top leg, hold your breath, and lift your head in hopes of rolling to your tummy.  Last week you couldn't do it and started crying out of frustration after a few tries.  This week however you are really getting a hang of rolling.  As a matter of fact, today when ever I lie you down you roll to your tummy!  After a few minutes on your tummy you start to get frustrated because you don't know what to do next.  Silly girl!

You have decided that sleeping well at night was not something you wanted to do anymore.  You have been waking up at least 3 times a night.  Ugh!  You still need to be swaddled.  We attempted swaddling you with your arms out but you kept waking yourself up.  So your arms are back in the swaddle.  I'm not worried about it.  Michela was swaddled until she was 6 months and I'm guessing you will be the same way.  I know I wont have to teach your college roommate how to swaddle you at night.  You'll figure it out soon enough.

You have a new nickname!  Michela started saying your name.  Well, she started attempting to say your name.  Now your name is  N-O-P.  Not like your Auntie Phea's last name but like the letters.  I asked Michela to say your name and she said, "N-O-P", then paused and started singing "Q-R-S-T-U-V..."  I bet you didn't know that your name was part of the alphabet song!  :)
